Oral exam (the Computational Biology group)

We answer questions regarding the second-stage exam (oral exam) of the Computational Biology group.

Can I bring my Inquiry Sheet to Online Oral Exam?

Yes. You can bring your own Inquiry Sheet to Online Oral Exam (Schedule A/B) if you wish.

Can you give us more details of the oral exams? (Schedule A, Computational Biology group only)

The oral examination for Schedule A in the Computational Biology group (CB Group) will be conducted in person at the Kashiwa Campus. Applicants to both master and doctoral courses will take a comprehensive oral examination including their motivation for application, future career, and academic knowledge.

In addition to the oral examination for the master course, applicants to the doctoral course will be asked to give a slide presentation of their master thesis (or its equivalent). In addition, an abstract of the presentation must be submitted in advance.

Since the Computational Biology group conducts a written examination of general academic specialties, except for some students (when master's students in this department take the entrance exam for the doctoral course), we will focus on other subjects in Schedule A.

Can you give us more details of the exams? (Schedule B, Computational Biology group only)

The oral exams of Schedule B is the same as those of Schedule A.

How much time does it take for an oral examination?

The duration of an oral examination varies depending on the number of examinees. For master's programs, it typically takes around 5 to 15 minutes, while for doctoral programs, it takes approximately 20 to 40 minutes. The time for doctoral exams is longer because they include a presentation of the master's thesis (or equivalent).
